Duration: 16 hours
Credits: 3 ECTS
Language: Italian (English available on request)
Target: PhD students in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Overview
This course provides an in-depth exploration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), emphasizing the role of artificial intelligence in research and system development. Students will develop both theoretical understanding and practical experience in the design, integration, and sustainability of modern BESS, with applications in future grid systems.
Teaching Program
- Battery basics, chemistry, and battery types
- System design and configuration
- Energy management and performance optimization
- Safety protocols and operational standards
- Simulation tools and techno-economic analysis
- Lifecycle and sustainability of battery systems
- Real-world case studies and applications
- Final project presentations and course wrap-up
Methodology
Each class includes a lecture followed by an AI-supported research assignment. Students will explore topics using AI-powered academic tools. The final outcome of the course is a collaboratively written book: each student (or group) authors a chapter based on a specific course topic. The chapters follow a unified style and go through peer review and instructor editing.
Assessment
- Evaluation of the authored book chapter
- Multiple-choice written exam (optional)
